Nagar Palika Parishad Gangaghat is situated in the Tehsil Sadar of Unnao district on the holy banks of Mokshadayini Maa Ganga river and on the Rajdhani Marg connecting the district headquarters Unnao to Kanpur. Gangaghat railway station is situated on the railway route connecting Unnao railway station to Kanpur city. The district-Unnao headquarters is located at a distance of about 14 km from the municipal boundary and the distance of the divisional and state headquarters Lucknow from the municipal boundary is about 74 km. Town area Gangaghat was first formed in 1972, which was upgraded in 1986 in the order of expansion of population and was given the status of Nagar Palika Parishad, in which revenue village Netua (partial) and revenue village Khairaha Ehatmali (partial) were included. According to the census of the year 2011, the population of Nagar Palika Parishad Gangaghat was 84,072 and the area was 5.50 square km. By Government Order Number:- 971/9-6-17-11CV/14 dated 14th July 2017, the present limits of Municipal Council Gangaghat Revenue Village Netua (partial) and Revenue Village Khairaha Ehtmali (partial) have been expanded by including Revenue Village Majhra Peepar Kheda (complete) and Revenue Village Katri Peepar Kheda (partial) in it. As per the above, the population of the expanded Municipal Council Gangaghat has increased from 84072 to 131290 as per the 2011 census and the area has increased from 5.50 square kilometers to 10.28 square kilometers. The average rainfall in the municipal area throughout the year is 852 mm and the maximum temperature is 44.6 degree centigrade to the minimum 4.0 degree centigrade. A concrete ghat and an "electric crematorium" have been constructed at Balughat/Anandghat under the Namami Gange scheme of the Central Government on the banks of the Ganga River. Mishra Colony Ghat and Balughat on the banks of the Ganga River are traditionally used as cremation ghats.
